The Overrated Truth – Talkingpen And Friends

“I didn’t mean to do it, it was the devil”.
How many times have you heard that cliché response whenever someone was caught in a bad act?
Truthfully, it could have been the devil. It makes no sense that the one said to move to and fro, seeking whom to devour, will be waiting quietly for you to poke him. So, are we to hold the devil responsible for every bad and evil thought we have?
Thoughts are not random. Every thought is influenced by something; it could be the devil, it could be your flesh, or it could be the mentality of this world. But, all these forces are allies, it makes little difference trying to separate them since they have a common goal; to spur us into negative actions.
However, suggestions do not automatically become actions. So, as these forces tear at us with their vices, a choice must be made. James puts it simply “submit to God and resist the devil”, Paul said “mortify your members which are on earth” and the apostle “whom Jesus loved”, reiterated “love not the world”
To mitigate the Influence of these vices over your life, you must “not conform to the world’s standard but let God change the way you think” and “above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are”.
It is most vital to be reminded yet again that all these can only be achieved by the help of the Holy Spirit of Truth through God’s Word. With him, dear Christian, “you belong to God and you have defeated these enemies”
So, was it the devil?
