It was learnt that the screening for prefects was cancelled and nothing was said in pursuance to it.
One fateful Wednesday that we came to school to collect our respective report cards, the timekeeper rang the bell for an impromptu assembly.
Lo and behold, Uncle Kehinde came to the podium and told us that it is time we appointed the new prefects that will be in charge of the next academic session.
In a climax manner, the announcement commenced as I was called as the Assistant timekeeper which ended with Adeyemo Abdulkabir(Heritage) declared as the senior prefect of Victoria Comprehensive College for the session.
Many were congratulating me and teasing me to be the next senior prefect in our set as I was the only prefect appointed in my class.
It was then that it dawned on me the conventional way of appointing Senior Prefect.
It is against that backdrop that I was determined to work above board in achieving my dream of the next Senior Prefect however, my dream was crippled by my Dad’s inability to sponsor sponsor my siblings and I in private schools due to the exorbitant school fees and he told me to choose a reputable Public School in the state for my senior secondary school education.

To say I was sad was an understatement, I was gloomy. After few days, I accepted fate and went to all secondary schools in the city of Osogbo and the only ‘standard’ school I found was Osogbo High School.
Upon resumption, I did all requisite registrations as a new student and went to my class to meet an assemblage of people.
